Rochdale Diversity Awards 2015
|
The winners of the Rochdale Diversity Awards were announced at an inspiring evening at Rochdale Town Hall on Thursday 28th May 2015. The Grand Hall was filled with a cross section of the community, senior public, sector officials and distinguished guests.
The Rochdale Diversity Awards ceremony promoted the excellent work being done by individuals, organisations and employers in supporting and promoting equality, diversity and cohesion within the borough. The awards also aimed to motivate service providers by ensuring equality and diversity issues were central to the remodelling and transformation of local services and organisations affected by austerity measures.

The event was officially opened by Zulf Ahmed CEO of KYP, who welcomed the guests and finalists. Zulf said “ Tonight we will see and hear of examples of good practice from across all sections of the community, private, public, voluntary organisations, from individuals , groups and partnerships. These are the things that make me a proud Rochdalian”. We should all challenge the negative portrayal of Rochdale and celebrate all that is good in the borough, after all we have many things to be proud of and everybody should be have one aim: To work together in co-operation for the harmony and prosperity of the residents and communities of Rochdale.”
Rochdale MP Simon Danczuk, Cllr Richard Farnell (Leader of Rochdale Council), Tony Lloyd (The Police and Crime Commissioner for Greater Manchester), and Chief Constable of Greater Manchester Sir Peter Fahy were speakers on the night.
The calibre of entries was very high this year and the judging panel had a very difficult time in choosing one winner for each category which goes to show the level of work being undertaken by individuals and organisations across the borough. Congratulations to all the finalists and winners.
