Apprenticeships - Case Study

Khaled Rahim - working with KYP

My name is Khaled Rahim and I work for KYP. I have been an apprentice with them for around 15 months now, initially as a Level 2 Apprentice and now I have progressed on to Level 3. I have really enjoyed my time here. I have various job roles within the company and currently I am being trained to work on Quality Systems, helping update procedures and carrying out internal audits. KYP encouraged me to undertake my QMS Internal Auditing course which I have successfully passed.

If you come to our organisation, you would often see me on Reception where I am the first point of contact; greeting visitors, tenants and customers coming into the building, operating the switchboard and answering telephone calls, directing and passing on messages to the appropriate people and generally helping out with enquiries.

This has really helped me gain confidence as I am now comfortable speaking with new faces whereas when I first started, I wasn’t.

I also work with the Training and Business Development teams by providing them with administrative support including preparing learner files, printing out resources, updating electronic records and other tasks which require completion within a given deadline.

I help with room and venue bookings and the organisation of events by doing all the preparation, and ensuring that everything is ready ahead of time. I really enjoy this aspect as it involves organising rooms and equipment, moving stuff about and using my own initiative. It is something different to the normal day to day work.

So what I really enjoy about KYP is that I am part of a team - everyone is really friendly and always willing to help. If I have any questions or am upset about something, I’m comfortable speaking about it with my colleagues. I feel that the time I’ve spent here has helped me gain a lot of experience of work and it has taught me that I represent my organisation in all aspects of my jobs. I have also learnt to make sure that tasks are done within the time given or else there will be knock-on effects for other people, so it has made me understand that you have to be sharp and quick within the work environment.

The experience I have gained with KYP will help me to develop a secure and sustainable career and employment within the Training and Development sector, as I have obtained valuable experience and skills during my time at KYP. They gave me the opportunity to enhance my skills, develop further and increase my knowledge on how the sector works.

My ambition is to progress within the organisation and secure a promoted role with KYP. I would like to be a role model for young people and encourage them into Work Based Training and Apprenticeship Programmes.
