Advice and Welfare Service

KYP, has been providing an advice and welfare service since its inception. The need for this service was identified by our founders. The decline of the textile industry led to a need for a bilingual face to face service which supported our local community. This need has not changed over the years. Initially there was a lack of English language within the community which prevented people from accessing welfare services. This is now changed to a lack of digital skills which still act as a barrier for people within the local Kashmiri Community in accessing support.

We continue to provide a face to face bilingual service to enable people to access normal everyday services such as council tax, housing benefits, debt management, school admissions, universal credit, and pension credit.

The service has evolved as communities have changed and we are now seeing an increase in number of clients from Afghan, Ukranian and Eastern European communities. We provide a wrap around service and ensure that people are supported from other services that we provide to meet their needs such as Job Club, Pantry, Skills Training and ESOL.
