Community Cinema

KYP’s Community Cinema is more than just a place to watch films. It is a welcoming space where people from the community can come together, enjoy a shared experience, and connect with one another through the power of cinema. By bringing people of different ages and backgrounds together, the cinema creates opportunities to discover new stories, explore different perspectives, and build a stronger sense of community.

It provides not only entertainment, but also a space for conversation, creativity, and connection, making film a way to bring people closer together. Kyp’s Community Cinema is brought to you in partnership with Film Hub North.

How It Began

KYP’s Community Cinema officially opened on 23 July 2026 with a very special screening of the much-loved 2002 classic, Bend It Like Beckham.

The opening event brought together partners, community members and special guests for an evening of great film, community and celebration.

A particular highlight was a special Q&A with Shaheen Khan, who starred in the film as Mrs Bhamra. Guests had the opportunity to hear fascinating insights from Shaheen about her experience making the iconic film, its lasting impact and the memories behind one of British cinema’s most beloved stories.

It was a fantastic evening and a wonderful way to launch our Community Cinema.

For the remainder of 2026, KYP will be hosting a series of community movie screenings. We’re excited to bring everyone together to enjoy a selection of films in a welcoming and friendly environment.
