Once again, the Great Hall at Rochdale Town Hall was the venue for the Rochdale Diversity Awards Ceremony 2017. Champions of Diversity from across the borough or Rochdale and Greater Manchester attended the event held on Friday 19th May 2017.

Now in its sixth year, and and organised by KYP, Rochdale Diversity Awards (RDA) continues to promote the excellent work being done by individuals, organisations and employers in the support and promotion of equality, diversity and cohesion within the borough. The awards also aim to motivate service providers by ensuring equality and diversity issues are central to the remodelling and transformation of local services and organisations.

Host for the evening was Zulf Ali and the guest speakers were: Cllr Ian Duckworth – Mayor of Rochdale, Cllr Richard Farnell – Leader of Rochdale Council, Chief Superintendent Neil Evans – Greater Manchester Police, Annie Zaidi – “Coach Annie” and Lord Qurban Hussain of Luton.

Zulf Ahmed, CEO of the Kashmir Youth Project, said: “Diversity emanates from this Great Hall in front of me and Rochdale continues to lead the way when it comes to equality and diversity.

“This is the sixth year of the Rochdale Diversity Awards and tonight we see and hear of examples of good practice from across all sections of the community, from private, public and voluntary organisations, from individuals, groups and partnerships. These are the things that make me proud to be Rochdalian.

“We should all challenge the negative portrayal of Rochdale and celebrate all that is good in the borough, after all, we have many things to be proud of and everyone in this room should have one aim, to work together in co-operation for the harmony and prosperity of the residents and community of Rochdale.”
